LELO Sona 2 Cruise Review: What We Really Thought
Our team's hands-on LELO Sona 2 Cruise review: how the sonic waves feel, Cruise Control, noise, lube, cleaning and who it suits.
The LELO Sona 2 Cruise is a sonic clitoral massager. It sits over the clitoris and sends sonic waves through the tissue, rather than buzzing the surface or using air suction like a Womanizer, so it feels closer to a vibrator. We've used it, and this is what we found, including the annoying bits.
By the Serious Pleasure team, with notes from a team member who uses it. Last reviewed: 28 October 2026.

LELO SONA 2 Cruise Clitoral Massager
The short verdict
- What it does well: a slow, deep build with no hunting for an angle. You seal the cup over the clitoris and hold it in place.
- What to know: even the lowest setting is fairly intense, it needs plenty of water-based lube, and the buttons are fiddly.
- Who it suits: anyone who wants a slow-building toy you simply hold in place, solo or for foreplay with a partner.
- Who should think twice: it's usable for a beginner but isn't the gentlest start, and it's buzzy rather than silent.

How it feels
The Sona 2 Cruise is a sonic toy, not an air-suction one, so it feels more like a vibrator. The cup is soft silicone over a firm plastic opening: gentle to the touch, but it doesn't give. Seal it over the clitoris and hold it in place, with no moving it around. It isn't hands-free: you or a partner keep it pressed to the body to maintain the seal.
The build is slow, around five minutes for our tester, and the climax is deeper and broader rather than a sharp peak. More in their notes below.
What our tester thought
First-hand notes from a team member. This is one person's experience, and everyone is different.
The build and the climax. It takes me a solid five minutes to build with this, and I like that. Instead of the sharp, sudden peak I get from a normal vibrator, the sonic waves give a deeper, broader climax. I thought it wasn't one for multiple orgasms, but once I figured out the lube, it was, and I don't go numb as quickly as I do with other toys.
Cruise Control can be a lot. Even the lowest setting is fairly intense, and when I press it too hard by accident, Cruise Control kicks in and the power gets stronger. That can be way too much and ruins the mood.
The buttons are a bit annoying. They face your body while you're using it, so changing mode mid-session without losing your placement takes some dexterity. They're also hard to tell apart by touch. The battery is a plus: it lasts weeks.
You need plenty of lube. I wouldn't use it dry, especially if you have any dryness: it chafes. It needs more water-based lube inside the nozzle than other toys to make a good seal. Once I got the amount right, it turned out to be really gentle on sensitive skin, because it pulses rather than rubs.
With a partner. It's great for foreplay with my partner holding it and controlling it. It's too bulky to fit between us during penetrative sex.
Practical. It's buzzy rather than silent. The nozzle is deep and narrow with no removable tip, so cleaning is fiddly; a toy-cleaner spray and a Q-tip to dry the inside help. It's waterproof and has a travel lock.
Who it suits. If you want something slow-building that you just hold in place, it's for you. For a beginner it's usable but not the gentlest start: begin on low, be well warmed up and use plenty of lube.
Verdict. A bloody good sonic toy.
Lube: the part that makes or breaks it
Use a generous amount of water-based lube, on the toy and on you. LELO recommends water-based lubricant for the Sona 2 Cruise. Silicone-based lubricants (and some hand creams) can leave silicone toys permanently tacky, so skip them with this one. If sex has been uncomfortable or you're dealing with dryness, fix that first: dry skin and a tight seal is where this toy goes wrong.
Charging, cleaning and travel
- Charging: about 2 hours for up to 2 hours of use. Use the original cable, and don't charge it overnight or use it while plugged in.
- Auto-off: it switches itself off after 20 minutes, which is handy if you drift off.
- Cleaning: warm water and soap or a toy cleaner, then pat it dry. Because the nozzle is deep and narrow, a Q-tip helps with the inside.
- Travel lock: hold the plus and minus buttons together to switch the lock on or off, so it can't switch on in your bag. Check the instructions that come with yours for the exact timing.
- In the bath or shower: LELO says it's 100% waterproof.
How it compares
We haven't tested the toys below, so this section comes from manufacturer and retailer listings.
- Womanizer Premium 2. Uses pulses of air pressure rather than sonic waves, so it feels softer and more like oral sex. It has an Autopilot mode and a quiet feature called Smart Silence, and its battery is listed as longer than the Sona 2 Cruise's. It typically costs more. If you want the gentlest, quietest option, look at this first. If you want a firmer, slower build, the Sona is the one.
- LELO Sona 3. The newer model. It has SmoothRise (gradual transitions between intensity levels) and, when paired with the LELO app, two extra modes plus Love Bridge, which lets a partner control it remotely. It costs more than the Sona 2 Cruise. Worth a look if you want the latest features, especially app and long-distance play.
Our verdict
The Sona 2 Cruise isn't the gentlest or quietest option, and it takes a bit of learning: more lube than you'd think, and care with the buttons. In return you get a slow, deep build that's hard to find elsewhere at this price. It's a bloody good sonic toy.

FAQ
Is the LELO Sona 2 Cruise worth it?
If you want a slow-building toy you just hold in place, and you don't mind using plenty of water-based lube, yes. If you want something very quiet or very gentle, look at the Womanizer Premium 2 first.
What is Cruise Control on the Sona 2 Cruise?
It's a feature that senses pressure and increases the power automatically when you press the toy harder against the body, so the intensity stays up. Our tester found it can be too much if you press by accident.
Is the LELO Sona 2 Cruise waterproof?
LELO describes it as 100% waterproof and suitable for the bath and shower.
How loud is the LELO Sona 2 Cruise?
LELO lists a maximum of 60 dB, about the level of a normal conversation. Our tester describes it as buzzy rather than silent, so it isn't one for thin walls.
What lube should I use with the Sona 2 Cruise?
Water-based lube, and plenty of it, including inside the nozzle to get a good seal. Avoid silicone lubricants, which can make silicone toys permanently tacky.
Is the Sona 2 Cruise good for beginners?
It's usable, but not the gentlest start. Begin on a low setting, be well warmed up and use plenty of lube.
Can couples use it?
Our tester finds it great for foreplay, with a partner holding and controlling it. It's too bulky to use between you during penetrative sex.
How long does the battery last?
LELO lists up to 2 hours of use from a 2-hour charge, and up to 90 days on standby. Our tester says it lasts weeks with normal use.
